令人動容的日劇《不毛地帶》片尾曲：Tom Traubert's Blue[修訂]

在追《仁醫JIN》的同時也在觀賞新日劇富士電視台50周年紀念大作的《不毛地帶》，由唐澤壽明領銜主演，改編自山崎豐子（《白色巨塔》與《華麗一族》小說作者）同名小說，此次是第二次改編的劇集。影集還未播完，但片尾曲《Tom Traubert's Blue》動聽感人，看著唐澤壽明獨自站在西伯利亞勞改營裡，大雪紛飛、鏡頭由遠拉近，孑然一身獨自矗立、孤獨無依的主角，伴隨沙啞滄桑的歌聲，令人感到壓抑陰鬱．．．

原先以為是黑人唱的，沒想到由這篇《不毛地帶主題曲 Tom Traubert's Blue.》得知原唱者竟是白人Tom Waits。

因為搜尋曲名Tom Traubert是何方神聖而發現了demona這篇文情並茂的Tom Waits - Tom Traubert's Blues，對歌曲背景與含義做了更詳盡的闡述：

註1："four sheets to the wind" 是 "three sheets to the wind"的加強版本。
"three sheets to the wind"中的"sheet"指的是古代行船時用來綁好船帆的三條主
要繩索，繩索要是沒綁好，不僅船帆張不開，就連船隻本身也很有可能因此搖晃遇
險。當三條繩子都"to the wind (飄在風中)"這種不可能發生的狀況發生了，想必
負責揚帆的水手們都一定是喝得爛醉了才會落得如此下場，故現在這段話就被用來
形容人爛醉如泥。

註2：Tom Traubert究竟何許人也？為什麼爛醉在哥本哈根？這個就像詩人他突然
在詩作中提起某個名不見經傳的人或某個沒頭沒尾的事件，一切都只有作者本人最
清楚，要追根究底恐怕很難了。不過，據說這首歌的作詞作曲兼主唱Tom Waits曾
表示Tom Traubert是朋友的朋友，最後死在監獄中，而坊間則盛傳Tom Waits創
作這首歌時人正在哥本哈根酩酊大醉。

註3："waltzing Matilda"不可照自面翻成和瑪蒂妲跳華爾滋喔(笑)。這個用語來自
澳洲的「非官方」國歌，意指把全部家當都背在身上四處流浪找工作。"Matilda"
一詞的來源有很多的揣測，其中一說就是那些流浪漢(swagman)們通常都是將自
己的舖蓋連同所有的家當全部捲在一起變成一個行囊揹著浪跡天涯。這種四處漂泊
的男人鮮有女人長伴左右，故流浪漢們便將唯一與他們朝夕相處的家當/行囊/舖蓋
戲謔地取了個女人的名字Matilda(瑪蒂妲)，而"waltzing Matilda"，跟行囊跳華爾
滋，漸漸的就演變成現在背著行囊去流浪的引申義了。不過，在這首歌中我翻成
「捲起舖蓋去流浪」，一來是因為"waltzing Maltida"本來的原意就有流浪漢捲起
swag(在此作舖蓋解)流浪的意思，二來是因為僅僅翻成不一定代表全部身家財產的
「行囊」可能還不能完全表達出歌曲主人公完全一無所有的處境。

註4：關於歌曲中第一人稱主人公的背景，我們所知甚少，不過經由這些字裡行間
的資訊，一般普遍認為他是個曾經經歷戰爭摧殘的老兵，對自己以保家衛國之名犯
下的殺人之罪久久不能釋懷，於是漸漸地喪失了對人、社會和未來的信仰，最後沉
淪於酒精與罪惡感之中，只能獨自背負著戰爭所帶來的破滅、創傷和愧疚浪跡天
涯。個人認為這種狀態正是在心理學中是非常典型的創傷後壓力症候群(PTSD)，
有興趣的朋友可以參照Wikipedia上的創傷後心理壓力緊張症候群條目。

註5：這句裡的"Stacys"是啥也是個大哉問。個人看了一大堆討論串之後，得到的
結論就是Stacys指的是曾經在七零年代非常夯的高級名鞋品牌，穿上它之後就有著
一種「大家看我穿這麼好的鞋就該知道我有多少斤兩，有長眼的就別隨便來惹
我！」的意味在。

註6：Old Bushmills是舊時非常知名的愛爾蘭威士忌品牌。

註7：Saint Christopher是旅者和水手的守護聖靈。一般常被做成護身符或十字架
戴在旅者和水手的身上，在此歌者說他丟了護身符，有許多詮釋的角度，其中常見
的兩種一是說他終於在「吻了她(某個不知名女人)」之後得到了救贖和歸屬，故不
再需要配戴護身符；另一個說法則是他完全喪失了信仰和求生的意志，於是連保佑
旅者的護身符都一併扔掉了。至於本句後段被主人公親吻的「她」，有人說是某個
女人，也有人說「她」指的就是主人公的行囊，也就是瑪蒂妲──歌曲主人公必須
永遠背負著的罪惡感和殘破不堪的心靈。由於Tom Waits本人對此完全沒有提出解
釋，在此大家就自由心證吧。

註8：在此歌中主人公明白指出「瑪蒂妲就是被告」，因此我也在網路上看到很多
網友直接將瑪蒂妲翻成一個實際存在的女人，甚至還有人將這段歌詞理解成一個叫
瑪蒂妲的女人殺死一百人之後嫁禍給主人公云云。不過，有鑒於上面註3的解
釋，Matilda在此應該不是指一個實際存在的女人吧(笑)。相對的，我情願循著自
己的詮釋角度，將主人公背著的「瑪蒂妲」解釋成主人公在戰場殺敵後產生的沉重
罪惡感，所以說他才會說他痛苦背負著的、另稱為瑪蒂妲的行囊就是犯罪的被告，
而且這個被告/這份罪惡感不論他走到哪裡都不會放過他，不讓他飽受摧殘的心靈
有任何喘息的空間。

註9：這一段堪稱這首歌中最經典、最傑出的兩句歌詞，雖然字不多、話也不長，
卻完完全全將歌曲主人公的心境刻畫得淋漓盡致。據說曾有樂評對這段歌詞連給了
三四個"brilliant"的讚嘆呢。

    不毛地帶已經看3次Tom Waits唱的片尾曲真是有夠悽涼又粗礦,真是有夠好看又好聽.

    me too,每次看到唐澤孤零的站在那個被關了11年的戰俘營,一聽到這首配樂,眼眶帶淚~好歌一首!!
